Sophia Manicone is an 18 year old actor, singer, and dancer from the Washington, DC Metro Area. A theater lover for as long as she can remember, Sophia saw her first Broadway production at the age of 3 and she’s been acting, singing, and dancing ever since. For her 5th birthday, she begged her parents for a red velvet curtain to hang in the basement to use as the stage curtain for the shows she and her friends would put on for anyone willing to watch!
Sophia made her professional debut at the age of 11 in RUTHLESS! THE MUSICAL, as the talented and bubbly 8 year-old, Tina Denmark, who will do ANYTHING to land the lead in her school play. She went on to play a number of timeless roles, such as Amy in LITTLE WOMEN, Fern in CHARLOTTE’S WEB, Dorothy in THE WIZARD OF OZ, Anne in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, Katherine in NEWSIES, Sister Mary Robert in SISTER ACT, Liesl VonTrapp in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and most notably, Scout in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, for which she earned a WATCH nomination for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play.
Although she loves bringing the classics to life, some of her most challenging and rewarding work has been with Creative Cauldron’s Bold New Works Initiative, in which she played in two world premiere musicals – KALEIDOSCOPE and WITCH. Surrounded by an incredibly talented all-female cast in both shows, Sophia witnessed first-hand the power of theater to open the audience’s eyes to social injustice and the plight of others. Her work with the show’s creative team, Matt Conner and Stephen Gregory Smith, taught her how sharing stories can impact communities. She was honored to make original cast recordings with the casts of KALEIDOSCOPE and WITCH and hopes that the cast recordings will make it easier for the important messages in these shows to reach communities beyond Washington, DC.
In November 2022, Sophia made her New York debut as Iola Stover in New York City Center’s production of PARADE, music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, directed by Michael Arden, and starring Micaela Diamond and Ben Platt. She’s thrilled to be reprising the role of Iola Stover in the Broadway revival of PARADE at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. Working with such an incredibly talented group of people on this production is a dream come true.
Sophia trains in voice, acting, jazz, ballet, contemporary and tap with coaches in Washington, New York and Los Angeles, including the DC Conservatory of Dance. She also studies with Broadway Artists Alliance, as well as The Theatre Lab and Levine Music’s Performance Institute where she played the role of Ellie Blake in FREAKY FRIDAY.
When not training, in rehearsal, or on stage, Sophia enjoys time with her friends and family and two enormous dogs (Scout and Percy). She enjoys hiking, reading, travel and going to see her theater friends in their shows!
